Reimagining Middle Schools with Conscious Discipline

Broward County Public Schools is one year into their Reimagining Middle Grades initiative. The goal of the initiative is to help every child “be literate, emotionally healthy, and academically successful in a safe, experiential learning environment.”

The first component of this exciting initiative is integrating social emotional learning through Conscious Discipline. Schools infuse Conscious Discipline across curriculum areas and in daily interactions to create a cultural shift that promotes safety and belonging. Some schools even offer an SEL elective that directly teaches the Brain State Model, how to manage emotions and regain composure, and more.
